On 9 June (Saturday) 2018 at Metropolitan YMCA (Palm Room), we will host an attractive side event: a two-game blindfold chess match between GM Timur Gareyev (sans sight of the board), the top seed of the event and holder of the current world record in simultaneous blindfold play, and NM Olimpiu G. Urcan, a Singapore-based historian and author. The games are played at a rate of 25 minutes and 10-second increment per player and will start at 4:00 pm.
Additionally, special guests will be selected to attend the match based on their answers to the quiz below. The first 12 successful candidates who submit the correct answers to the quiz (first come, first served basis) will qualify for the following:
1) win medals for being the first 12 to get the correct answers to the quiz (note: attendance to Blindfold Challenge is necessary for medal collection).
2) take part in a Guess Timur’s Moves competition (4:00 pm – 6:00 pm) where 3 participants with the highest number of correct answers will each get a copy of “Blindfold Chess” autographed by GM Gareyev.
3) take part in a 7-round “QCD-Prof Lim Kok Ann” Blitz Challenge (3 min + 2 sec increment) event (6:00 pm to 7:30pm) after the Blindfold Challenge with the top 3 placers getting trophies .
